Ban welcomes African Union’s fund for peace and security operations on the continent

United Nations Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon has welcomed a decision by the Assembly of Heads of State
and Government of the African Union (AU) that sets out steps towards
self-reliance, particularly in relation to the regional body’s peace and
security budget.

top United Nations humanitarian official for Africa’s Sahel region has
expressed gratitude to the United States and the European Union for
their financial support for people affected by violence in countries
surrounding the Lake Chad Basin region – and called for greater
international support.
